Vision & Goals
SCALE-IT seeks to train scientists to apply appropriate computing tools to solve quantitative problems to all scales of biology; thus creating a new breed of biocomputational scientists.
The goals of SCALE-IT include:
- Training students to address the most challenging sub-cellular to organismal problems in biology.
- Educating computationally-savvy biologists who can more effectively function at the interface of the computational and biological disciplines.
- Providing a solid foundation in computational science to incorporate better high performance computing and grid computing approaches to biological questions.
- Enhancing education, training, and outreach with new curriculum, in-depth problem-based learning and broad experiences for professional development.
- Building a community through mentoring and team-based activities.
- Enabling students to reflect upon the ethical implications of science as it moves forward with new tools and comprehensive approaches.
- Developing communication skills to impart excitement and interest to the public and computing and biological sciences by including training opportunities in science communication and media relations
