Internships
Experience has shown that student education is significantly enriched when research activities are coupled with execution. Therefore, SCALE-IT will foster experiential and collaborative learning environments that connect ongoing research and development efforts with off-site application experience.
An exciting opportunity exists for our students to work with a large $11.7M multi-investigator NSF-sponsored project entitled DANSE (Distributed Data Analysis Neutron Scattering Experiments), which is led by Dr. Brent Fultz at Cal Tech. Dr. Peterson has an ongoing relationship with one of the software developers on the project, Dr. Paul Butler at NIST. With DANSE, the opportunities that can be anticipated for our students involve working on analysis methods for the various areas of neutron scattering, including SANS, reflectometry and diffraction.
Other opportunities are also available for students to intern with major industries, institutes and other academic programs, including: Genentech, Microsoft, IBM, Novartis, Pfizer, the Jackson Laboratory, and computing and informatics programs in Oxford, Germany, Australia, Sweden and the Middle East.
