Challenge of the Month

African American students studying togetherSCALE-IT is looking for dedicated students who are not afraid to pursue new and innovative research. In an effort to immerse SCALE-IT students in research the facilitators have developed the Challenges of the Month. Each challenge will provide a snapshot of the ongoing research projects. At the beginning of each month, a research team will post their challenge on the web for access by all participants (first-year students and research team). These challenges will represent real-world problems that are being tackled by the group.

The team that presented the challenge will be available to meet with students during the month to help them gain a more in depth understanding of the research. All of the first-year students will attend a brainstorming session at the end of the month, to which they come with a short (~one-page) “brief” of their own summarizing how their thinking about the problem has progressed. At the end of the month students will gather together to discuss the challenge with the research team.
