SCALE-IT, Scalable Computing and Leading Edge Innovative Technologies, is an Integrated Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) Program funded through a grant by the National Science Foundation. SCALE-IT is a graduate fellowship program at the University of Tennessee designed to train scientists to apply appropriate computing tools to solve quantitative problems at all scales of biology (from atoms to ecosystems). The interdisciplinary nature of the program integrates faculty from the departments of Genome Science and Technology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Computer Science and others as well as researchers at the Oak Ridge National Lab and National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis. Students receiving a fellowship award will have unparalleled opportunities to conduct research that integrates computer science, mathematics, and biology. The fellowship also includes a $30,000 stipend and full tuition waver.
