SCALE-IT is an interdisciplinary graduate fellowship program training future computatonal biologists at all scales of biology, from atoms to ecosystems.
Funded through NSF's Integrated Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) program, SCALE-IT provides tools and support to transcend the traditional barriers between disciplines. The program integrates faculty from the departments of Genome Science and Technology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and others as well as researchers at the Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) and the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis (NIMBioS).
SCALE-IT trains its fellows to apply appropriate computational tools to problems in biology. Fellows have unparalleled opportunities to conduct research at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and biology, including access to Kraken at ORNL, one of the world's fastest super computers. Additionally, SCALE-IT offers competetive support for the first two years of Ph.D. study with fellows receiving a full tuition waiver and stipend of $30,000 per year during their tenure in the program.
