Scale Jury Guidelines

All woodwind music majors must perform all scales by memory before they will be allowed to enter the 200 level applied courses. The examination will be scheduled by the Woodwind Faculty, after midterm, on the designated day reserved for pre-recital hearings. The scales specifically required are all major, harmonic and melodic minor scales.

Flute Requirements: All Major and Harmonic Minor scales will be performed extended in even eighth notes at metronome marking: quarter=120, Melodic Minor scales will be performed two octaves in even eighth notes at metronome marking: quarter=120 PLUS the corresponding ARPEGGIOS.
