Camp Koinonia
Fellowship in a Caring Community since 1977

Camp Koinonia (Coin-o-nia) is a residential camping program that strives to enhance the lives of children with disabilities who attend.
The word Koinonia is a Greek word that means fellowship and caring community. The name came about as a result of a contest to name the camp during the first year of the camp at Virginia Tech.
Dr. Gene Hayes began the camp in 1977 at Virginia Tech. There were 120 students and 60 campers in attendance that first year. Since the first camp, over 2,000 studentss and 1,200 campers have attended Camp Koinonia.
