Dr. Sylvia Trendafilova,
Visiting Assistant Professor

Dr. Trendafilova teaches the graduate Administration and Supervision in Sport, and Readings in Sport Management courses. She earned a bachelor of science in Physics from Sofia University, Bulgaria, and two master of science degrees (one in Environmental Science and the other in Sport Management) from Baylor University, Texas. She received her doctorate in Sport Management from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Trendafilova’s research interests focus on the environmental management in and through sport. Her dissertation was concerned with the sustainable management of outdoor recreational sports with an emphasis on the means to modify behaviors of sport participants that exacerbate degradation of the local ecology.  Her work is informed by theories from political economy, sociology, and behavioral analysis.  Dr. Trendafilova is particularly interested in the theory of collective action and its applications in the realm of sport. She has presented her work at the NASSM conferences and has published a book chapter in M. Parent and T. Slack’s book International Perspectives on the Management of Sport.
