Dr. Lars Dzikus

Dr. Dzikus teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in sport studies including Socio- Cultural Foundations of Sport and Leisure, Sociological Aspects of Sport, and Social Theories of Sport.

His primary research interests lie in globalization and the diffusion of American sports, particularly the history of American football in Germany in its broader socio-cultural context.

Dr. Dzikus has regularly assisted German professional soccer teams visiting the United States, including Hamburg SV, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and the women’s national team.

Dr. Dzikus earned both his master’s and doctoral degrees in socio-cultural studies in sport from The Ohio State University. As an undergraduate he studied chemistry, physical education, and education at the Universität Hamburg, Germany. Dr. Dzikus is a member of the North American Society for Sport History (NASSH) and the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS).
