Activities - Past

SAA Logo

Because SAA is truly a service organization, SAA’s fundamental goal is to serve as a liaison between the student body and alumni of the University of Tennessee. This interaction between current students and the UT National Alumni Association has encouraged students to become active alumni. SAA and its members give their time to the bettwrment of our campus and our community with the understanding that they will one day be informed and involved alumni of the university.

SAA is dedicated to serving past university students, our alumni. through various activities, SAAs constantly interact with our alumni. These activies are listed below.

Presidential Hosts

SAA was selected in 2004 to serve as official hosts for The University of Tennessee. Members assist with events in the university skyboxes, at tailgate parties prior to home football games, and at other special events.

Dinner with 12 Strangers

Who wouldn't want a free dinner? Tennessee alumni open their homes to twelve members of SAA. There they share dinner, talk about future plans, and discover how the Volunteer Spirit has influenced them all. SAA coordinates this event in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Take a Grad to Class

Many things have changed on our campus over the years... but going to class will always be a part of the college experience. Alumni sign up to participate in this interesting program. SAAs and alumni meet at Tyson House, where they share an introductory breakfast and are divided into groups. Tennessee alumni then attend class with current SAAs. Hopefully they have done their homework!

Development Council

SAA has a major role in the Development Council's Campaign for Tennessee. SAAs work development dinners and donor recognition banquets. Their presence at events shows donors how their generosity has an impact on the lives of everyday students.

Alumni Chapter Meetings

SAA members travel to meetings throughout the state and often out-of-state, giving students the opportunity to visit with alumni, sharing what’s new on campus, and observing the activities of an active alumni chapter.

Alumni Summer College

SAAs are asked to serve on student panels, answering questions and updating alumni on what’s new at the Knoxville campus. Alumni appreciate updates about campus life from SAAs.

Reunions and Homecoming Activities

Students always enjoy this time of year. The numerous activities and events keep us busy. SAA members decorate for dances and dinners, assist with homecoming picnics and reunions (such as cheerleaders and orientation leaders), make signs to welcome university Golden Grads, and work to assist alumni at the homecoming parade.

In all, the interaction shared between alumni and SAAs is beneficial and enjoyed by both groups. Alumni have the opportunity to stay informed with campus news. Students are given the chance to gain firsthand knowledge about the responsibilities of univerity alumni.
