Adhering to the motto of “Students Serving Students...Past...Present...Future,” SAA has made tremendous contributions to campus life and to the community since our founding in 1971. SAA has won numerous regional awards from the CASE-ASAP conventions for its contribution to student life and advancement at The University of Tennessee.
SAA has been recognized by The University of Tennessee for its service. In 2004, SAA won the award for the Most Outstanding Student Organization. SAA also has was awarded the University Citation for Extraordinary Contributions to Campus Life in 1999, 2001, and 2007.
Because SAA is truly a service organization, SAA’s fundamental goal is to serve as a liaison between the student body and alumni of the University of Tennessee. This interaction between current students and the UT National Alumni Association has encouraged students to become active alumni. SAA and its members give their time to the bettwrment of our campus and our community with the understanding that they will one day be informed and involved alumni of the university.
VAN (Volunteer Alumni Network) and Recruitment parties are held across the state in an effort to recruit highly motivated high school students. The UT Admissions and Honors Departments and the Office of Alumni Affairs sponsor these parties. SAAs attend and talk to prospective students about their experiences in Big Orange Country.
SAAs act as hosts to the Knox County Honors Banquet, an event that honors the brightest students in Knox County Schools. SAAs talk about their college experiences with these students and encourage them to pursue an education at The University of Tennessee.
