Scholarship Information
money In order to earn a commission as an officer in the Air Force, it's paramount you achieve your educational goals and earn a Bachelors degree. As you well know, college tuition isn't cheap. While it's not necessary to receive a scholarship to participate in the program, Air Force ROTC may help eliminate or lessen your financial burdens.   • High School Students:
    The Air Force ROTC High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) provides 3 or 4-year scholarships in three different types to high school seniors. All 4-year scholarships activate in the fall of your freshman year. All 3-year scholarships activate in the fall of your sophomore year.

Approximately 5% of 4-year scholarship winners offered a Type 1 scholarship (mostly in technical fields of study such as engineering, chemistry and meteorology). 1 Dec of Senior Year of High School

Type-2
Approximately 20% of 4-year scholarship winners offered a Type-2 scholarship (mostly in technical fields of study such as engineering, chemistry and meteorology).
All 3-year scholarships are Type-2.
- Pays tuition and fees up to $18,000
- $900 textbook allowance
- $300 to $500 monthly stipend
Type-7
Scholarship winners must attend a college where the tuition is less than $9,000 per year or attend a college where student qualifies for the in-state tuition. (Note: Student may convert a 4-year Type-7 scholarship to a 3-year Type-2 scholarship if school does not qualify under the guidelines above)

  • College Students:
    The In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP) is open to freshmen and sophomore college students in any major.

Type-2
The In-College Commander's Leadership Scholarship is open to students enrolled in AS100 during the fall semester of their freshman year. The Detachment Commander nominates one cadet from their program using the "whole person" concept (evaluating leadership potential, academic performance, physical fitness, program participation, etc.). This scholarship will activate in the spring semester.
End of Fall Term

- Pays tuition up to $18,000
- $900 textbook allowance
- $300 to $500 monthly stipend

- U.S. citizen
- Pass AFOQT
- Pass PFA
- 2.5 GPA
- Not already a contracted cadet
- Under age 31 on 31 Dec of commissioning year
- Pass commissioning physical

Phase 1: Open only to students enrolled as AS100 or AS200 cadets. Detachment Commander nominates cadets using "whole person" concept. Headquarters AFROTC determines scholarship winners. Phase 1 winners are awarded Type-2 scholarships that activate the next fall term.
31 Jan of Freshman or Sophomore Year in College
Type-2
Phase 2: Open to any student (including those not enrolled in AFROTC and those not selected in Phase 1). Applications are processed by local detachment and submitted to a central selection board at Headquarters AFROTC. Students not enrolled in AFROTC must be interviewed by an Air Force officer. The board meets in July and results are typically released in August. Phase 2 winners are awarded either a Type-2 or Type-3 scholarships that activate the next fall term.

Type-6
Non-selected AS200 cadets will be considered for a Type-6 scholarship.

  • College Students:
    The Express Scholarship Program (ESP) is available to college students in specific majors (see table below). This scholarship is operated on a fully-qualified basis. Those who meet the qualifications are awarded the scholarship and do not meet a scholarship selection board.

Type-1

The Express Scholarship is designed to meet Air Force ROTC officer production requirements in specific career fields. The list of approved fields varies from year to year. Currently, the Air Force is offering Express Scholarships in the following majors:

- Nursing
- Computer Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Foreign Language: Russian (see Detachment for complete listing)

Open

- Pays full tuition and most fees
- $900 textbook allowance
- $300 to $500 monthly stipend

- Majoring in one of the approved majors listed
- U.S. citizen
- Pass AFOQT
- Pass PFA
- 2.5 GPA
- Not already a contracted cadet
- Under age 31 on 31 Dec of commissioning year
