Fitness Standards

The Air Force is comprised of courageous men and women who, due to the unique demands of military duties, must be "fit to fight" at all times. A disciplined exercise program is an important element of a healthy lifestyle. AFROTC cadets participate in a one-hour physical training session twice each week. Training may consist of stretching, running, calisthenics, and other fun activities such as swimming, basketball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, weight training, etc.

In addition, cadets must complete a physical fitness assessment once each semester. The assessment consists of measurements in four areas: (1) aerobic (1.5 mile run), (2) body composition (abdominal circumference), (3) push-ups and (4) crunches. A composite score is generated from points awared in each of these four areas. Cadet must score at least a 75 on the assessment to pass.

Want to calculate your fitness score? Download the physical fitness assessment score charts for males or females and find out where you stand.
