sunset crater volcano national monument, page one
During the summer of 2001, Rachelle and I took a vacation to visit National Parks and Monuments in Utah and Arizona. Between Petrified Forest National Park and Flagstaff, AZ. We took a slight detour to visit Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
In 1065 A.D. Sunset Crater Volcano erupted for the first time. Over the next 100 years or so, the volcano continued to erupt sending lava and cinder to cover the surrounding landscape. Today, Sunset Crater Volcano, the youngest, least-eroded cinder cone in the San Francisco Volcanic Field, rises 1,000 feet above the surrounding area.
