petrified forest national park, page three
During the summer of 2001, Rachelle and I took a vacation to visit National Parks and Monuments in Utah and Arizona. After visiting Canyon de Chelly National Monument and Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, we drove to Flagstaff, AZ. On the way to Flagstaff, we stopped for a few hours at Petrified Forest National Park.
Contained within the park's boundaries are large and colorful concentrations of petrified wood, the multi-hued badlands of Northern Arizona, known as the Painted Desert, and evidence of the Anasazi, the same ancient Puebloans who once occupied Canyon de Chelly.

We then left Petrified Forest National Park and headed to Flagstaff, AZ. Along the way we took a slight detour to visit Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
