arches national park, petrified dunes
We began our sightseeing with a stop at the Visitor Center, after which we drove into the park. The surreal landscape which greeted us made it seem as if we had been transported to another planet.
Next, we saw sandstone formations known as "Petrified Dunes". This is an inaccurate description since rock is inorganic and can not be petrified. These "dunes" are composed of sandstone which at one time were sand dunes that were pressurized into these sandstone formations.
