2008-12-26I made a new thing like this: Tertiary Source. |
2007-04-03I have let this page be stale for more than a year. Is anyone still reading it? Let me know. Today we all went and played in the World's Fair Park fountains. Didn't think to take a camera. Rob Mahurin Last modified: Tue Apr 3 18:36:58 EDT 2007 |
2006-02-15Lots going on. Ellen is starting to have luck with her dog training business, Clever Critters. We had a little snow and Hannah liked it.

2006-01-03"Has it only been two months since we were the same size?"
Answer: not quite. Rob Mahurin Last modified: Tue Jan 3 20:55:07 EST 2006 |
2005-12-09There are new pictures of Hannah but they aren't online yet, just to torment my mother. You know, when I set up this easier-update web page thing I intended it to be a little more general than it is right now. However it has sort of turned into the Baby Channel. I'm told the rest of my life will be like that. Rob Mahurin Last modified: Fri Dec 9 17:55:56 EST 2005 |
2005-11-21New pictures. Contrary to what you might believe from the postings below, Hannah actually has eyes: Have you, like Ellen's grandparents, had trouble seeing the pictures on this page? Rob Mahurin Last modified: Mon Nov 21 19:16:04 EST 2005 |
2005-11-16Bad news: our giant strong five-pound baby is denied the pleasure of another pediatrician visit for two whole weeks.
My mother has gone home, and Hannah and Ellen and I are getting more sleep. (Mom wants to clarify that these events are not causally connected.) Hannah had some too-small birthday cake from Chris and Nelio last Friday. She is wary of hippopotamuses, perhaps because she has begun to attract the attention of Gilbert (but not of Ernie). 2005-11-12Apparently my dog has interviewed my daughter. Here I was thinking that neither could read, write, or talk.Rob Mahurin Last modified: Sat Nov 12 13:46:54 EST 2005 |
2005-11-10Still home, resting. Barely a foot long with her knees bent, Hannah is already using the telephone.Still sitting under the bright lights ...
... but at home they set.

2005-11-08A milestone today: the first day of Hannah's life without a doctor visit. Rob Mahurin Last modified: Tue Nov 8 23:34:44 EST 2005 |

2005-11-05Hannah is still wearing clothes, but with the standard objections:
Hannah's jaundice seems to have stabilized. If she stays fine without her lights, we'll room in with her at the hospital tonight and maybe possibly come home with her after a discharge class on Sunday. Rob Mahurin Last modified: Sat Nov 5 09:39:07 EST 2005 |
2005-11-03It's the fashion parade! Ribbon required. Sunglasses optional.
Hannah has gotten a break from her lights and is wearing clothes! (But not in that picture.) Rob Mahurin Last modified: Thu Nov 3 21:28:49 EST 2005 |
2005-11-02Hannah has been strong enough to get out of her warmer and cuddle. Her umbilical IV is gone and she's getting all of her nourishment by mouth. Yesterday she tried to drink from the fire hose, but no luck.
If her jaundice is better she can get dressed today. Her
grandmamas have been teaching her about shopping.

2005-10-31Hannah's jaundice is much better after some time under the spotlight.
There are too many gems to put them all in this page, but they're all
here.

Rob started the 27th in New Mexico but was able get get back to Knoxville in time. Pawpaw and Nana and Grandmama were around to help too. We tried to keep folks posted about what was happening but it was hard. The delivery was relatively easy. Hannah came at 6:30 PM. At 7 weeks early, she weighed a whopping four and a half pounds and is eighteen inches long. Because she was so little, we got to rest while Dr. Prinz made sure things were okay and got Hannah ready to go over to the Children's Hospital. Ellen's medicine made her cold. Hannah got to ride in a special house for the trip through the two tunnels from Ft. Sanders to Children's. After a couple hours Ellen was ready to move to a postpartum room, and then Mama and Daddy got to go visit Hannah at the NICU. Hannah had a little extra air pressure to hold her sticky little lungs open, and a tube to get air and amniotic fluid out of her tummy, and some monitors to make sure she was still warm and vigorous. The air was gone by Friday morning (see that open eye?). Hannah didn't like the tummy tube and pulled it out too; it went back in but was gone Saturday night. Ellen and Rob have gotten lots of beautiful flowers. Ellen is working on turning her food into milk for Hannah. On Saturday we were finally able to go visit and hold Hannah and let her eat by mouth. She still has her umbilical IV, but is breathing (and talking, and fussing) all on her own and likes her pacifier. Saturday night Ellen was able to go home. We were very tired. Rob had gas (helium gas).
Next feeding is at 1:30, so it's time to go.
A normal delivery happens 37–42 weeks into a pregnancy. Since Hannah was born during week 32, the first guess is that she'll stay at Children's for four to six weeks. She's glad you're interested in her and hopes you'll keep in touch with Mama and Daddy.
Today Hannah is having a little bit of jaundice, so she is under
three blue sunlamps wearing Velcro movie star sunglasses.
