  • Former Master’s graduate Meagan Carter, who is now a lecturer in the department, has accepted a position as Director of Religious Education at Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church in Alexandria, Virginia.

  • Former Master’s graduate Shawn Arthur, who is currently finishing his doctoral studies at Boston University, has been offered a tenure-track position in Asian Religions at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

  • Joel Brooks graduated from the MA program in 2000. He entered the MA program in English at Belmont University (Nashville) in 2001; he finished in 2003 with a thesis titled "Aestheticizing the Apocalypse: The Death of God and the Poetry of Stephen Crane." He also began teaching as an adjunct for Roane State in 2002 and as a full-time faculty member in 2004. He left Roane State in 2005 to return to UT to finish his PhD in English. He still teaches a couple of English and Religious Studies classes each semester for the Regents Online Degree Program.

  • In December 2005, Dr. Steven M. Trotter completed the M.A. in Philosophy with a concentration in Religious Studies. Steven’s interests and studies focused on early Christianity and Christian Ethics. During his undergraduate years at UT (1972-1976), Steven took numerous courses in Religious Studies. His exposure to the study of religion and the superb faculty of the Department left a lasting impression, and prompted his recent participation in the graduate program. Steven is currently employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the Society of Christian Ethics.
