President's Award

The Southern Association for Vascular Surgery announces the nineteenth annual President's Award for the best manuscript on vascular surgery submitted by a new member elected to membership within the past three years.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for this award includes new members elected to membership within the past three years (1997, 1998, 1999). The Program Committee will choose the best overall manuscript from among those presented, by a new member, at the 2000 Annual Meeting of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona, January 19-22, 2000. To be eligible for the award, an abstract must be accepted by the Program Committee for presentation at the regular Scientific Sessions of the Annual Meeting. A manuscript, suitable for publication in the Journal of Vascular Surgery, is required. Someone other than the now member (follow, resident, etc.) may present the accepted paper, but the new member must close the discussion. Furthermore, the quality of the presentation is a major consideration in the award.

The content of the manuscript must represent original work relating to clinical material, clinical research, or basic investigation on peripheral arterial, cerebrovascular, venous or lymphatic disease. The material must not have been presented, submitted, or published elsewhere. The manuscript should be typed, double-spaced, and should include a title page and an abstract of no more than 200 words. Illustrations should be glossy prints with separate typewritten legends, and tables should each by typewritten on a separate page. The reference list should be typed, double-spaced, in order of citation in the minimal punctuation of INDEX MEDICOS. The total length of the manuscript should not exceed 20 typewritten, double-spaced pages.

ABSTRACTS

In order for the paper to be considered for the President's Award, an abstract must be submitted by September 8, 1999.

JUDGING

The Program Committee of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery will choose the best overall presentation/manuscript from those presented and submitted by eligible individuals. Quality of the oral presentation and excellence of the manuscript will be major factors considered by the Committee. Acceptance for publication in the Journal of Vascular Surgery will be given special consideration.
