Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm

The names Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm are synonomous with traditional fairy tales. In 1812 the two German college professors published their first collection of stories called Children's and Household Tales. While most of the folk tales the brothers collected came from Germany, some can be traced to areas of France, as well. Many of the original collected tales were quite frightening and so over time the stories lost some of the violence and began to evolve into stories told to children.
