March 10, 2009 Meeting Minutes
• Carl has our shirts! YaY Carl!!!
• March 24, Dr. Emsly will come talk with us.
• Allison still has some name tags for people. You can call her, email her, or whatever to get in touch with her to get them.
• Horseback riding is April 18. Maybe packed lunch then hotdogs/marshmallows on the firepit afterwards.

• Interview: one nice, one quiet, one hard person. Need current event research – check news sites, newspapers, etc. It wasn’t question/answer – more like a conversation. Dress nicely – no jeans, cleavage, toes.
• Last around 25 minutes. They’re not just interviewing you; you’re also interviewing them. You need to make sure it’s the right fit of you. Ask them questions about why they teach here and make sure the school is where you want to go.
• They have access to your records and where you have applied to. They also have your experience.
• Meet with the dean before the interview.
• Get involved in the school; get a job in the labs. It never hurts for someone to see your face.
• GRE websites help with vocabulary for people with no money to buy help books.
• You can bring a bottle of water, but you don’t need to bring a resume or anything like that.
• Make eye contact with each of them, shake their hands, know their names (and how to pronounce them), and shake their hands when you leave.
• It’s ok to say that you don’t know something. You don’t want to bullshit a doctor because they’ll know that you’re lying.
• Don’t try to be funny.
• Be as calm as possible; you don’t want to come across as being too nervous.
• Don’t be afraid to apply out of state.
• They look at your facebooks, so keep it clean.
• They want diversity – big on public health here, though.
• S-M-I-L-E! Be confident and happy.
