submissions for review are accepted in hard format, on slides, or
on disc. You may pick up the necessary forms at the Phoenix office
or contact us and we'll send you one.
Contributions to Phoenix must follow the terms and conditions below:
Submissions Policies
- All literary submissions MUST be typed.
- There is a limit of 3 poems for poetry submissions and 2 prose pieces for fiction/non-fiction submissions. Poetry, fiction, and non-fiction are not returned.
- Work may be submitted for more than one genre.
- The limit for photographs is 5.
- Slides are always accepted for all artwork
- Artwork does not need to be matted or framed. Unframed pieces are preferable, as these pieces will be professionally photographed if accepted.
- Uncategorizable work is accepted

Submissions Guidelines.
- All genres must include a print copy of their material. A digital copy will be accepted, but for selection ease, a printed, physical copy of the piece--artistic or literary--must also be included.
- Submitters will be notified of acceptance by e-mail. A list of accepted works will also be posted outside of Communications 5. Phoenix does not set dates for notification.
- Unaccepted artwork must be picked up after selections are made. All artists will be notified by e-mail.
- Accepted artwork will be available for pick up after the Poetry Reading/Art Show unless the artist needs it back earlier.
Legal Conditions
In submitting a contribution for consideration by the staff of Phoenix
for inclusion in a future issue, the contributor acknowledges and
agrees to the following conditions:
- Phoenix has complete editorial control over the use and
display of contributions accepted for publication. This includes visual
and written contributions. If your material is to be reproduced in a
particular form, please indicate so. Limiting the use and display of your
contribution may limit its chance of being published.
- Phoenix and The University of Tennessee are released from any and all responsibility resulting from loss or damage to contributions submitted for consideration or for errors in the publication of the contribution. All
contributions are accepted at the contributor's risk.
- Except for original paintings, art works, and crafts, Phoenix will make no effort to return contributions. Phoenix will notify contributors of original paintings, art works, and crafts when the submission must be picked up. The contributor must pick up the submission as specified within that notification (usually within five days). Except in unusual circmstances Phoenix will not agree to
return photographic prints.
- Phoenix is copyright by The University of Tennessee,
but ownership rights associated with each contribution remain with the
contributor.
- The contributor certifies that the contribution is an original work
and that he/she is the sole proprietor of the work. The contributor
further certifies that the work is not a violation of an existing
copyright or other property right and contains nothing libelous or
otherwise unlawful. The contributor releases Phoenix and The University of Tennessee from
responsiblity for all claims arising out of publication of the work in Phoenix, including but not limited to plagerism, copyright
infringement, and libel.
- Phoenix offers no compensation or other payment if this
contribution is accepted for publication.
All contributors must understand and agree to the above terms and
conditions. Submission forms may be picked up at room 11
Communications Building.
