I received my Ph.D. in philosophy with a concentration in medical ethics from UT in 2003, and joined the department as a lecturer then.
Prior to graduate school, I worked in the inpatient psychiatric division of a small county hospital in upstate New York. Caring for patients there sparked my interest in bioethics, especially clinical ethics and mental health ethics. Today, I’m an active member of the Ethics Committee at UT Medical Center. I also teach the ethics classes for Medical Explorations, a pre-health program at UTMCK.
I’m committed to ethics outreach in the form of talks and workshops on ethics to church, civic, and professional groups. Some of my recent talks include “Headless Chickens and the Meaning of Life” “Addiction and Authenticity” “Caregiver/Patient Dynamics: Caring for the Family” “Reflections on the Nature of Truth”.
My teaching interests include clinical ethics education (for health care providers as well as for students), feminism, and all areas of practical ethics.
