This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:
6. Knowledge and skills to achieve career goals
The student will:
6.8 Examine the changing workplace and the necessity 
for lifelong learning and acquisition of new skills
6.9 Assess how course selections impact career options

General Approach
The general approach is that students will engage in an internet scavenger hunt which will be facilitated by a discussion.

Activity Steps
  1. Print a copy of the worksheet for each student 
  2. Give a copy of the worksheet to each student
  3. Instruct the students to go to www.whatdotheydo.com 
  4. Instruct the students to engage in an internet search in order to answer 15 questions related to different careers. Allow 15-20 minutes for search.
  5. After 15-20 minutes, go over the worksheet; reading the scenario and calling on students for the answers. 
  6. Elicit any additional information the students may know. 
  7. Focus on education required, particular classes that relate, community jobs, etc.

Time Required
This activity will require 30-40 minutes in sum.  Allow 15-20 minutes for in-site internet search, and an additional 15-20 minutes for going over answers and class discussion.

Performance Indicators
After the worksheets have been completed, engage in classroom discussion.  Allows students to check answers while divulging additional information they may or may not already know.  Focus on educational requirements, related activities in present life, relevant classes, etc.
