This activity will help students acquire competencies
which relate to the following standards: 8. Self
knowledge applications The student will: 8.2 Recognize the connection between ones choices and consequences. |

General Approach
|
The general approach is that students will work
individually at a computer station to take the Arthur quiz at the PBS
website. Once everyone has finished
the quiz lead the group in a discussion regarding making choices and the
consequences that follow each choice.
Pass out the attached worksheet and have each group work through the
example provided. |

Activity Steps
|
1.
Ask each student to sit at his or her
own individual computer. 2. Tell the students to link to Arthur Quiz 3. Explain to
the class that they will be asked a number of questions and with each
question they will have to solve a problem or make a choice. With each choice Arthur or one of his
friends will reply and show you what happens as a result of your choice. Tell the students that their goal is to
make it to the top of the tree house.
4. Once each
child has finished their quiz pass out the attached worksheet. Choices and Consequences
Worksheet 5. Discuss
decision-making and the steps listed on the worksheet. Talk about how each choice can lead to
different outcomes. 6. Divide the
class into groups of three. Ask each
group to work through the example. 7. Discuss how each group chose to solve the problem and why. |

Time Required
|
This activity will require about 15 minutes for each
student to take the quiz online. The
discussion time will be approximately 10 minutes total. It will take 10 minutes for the students
to complete their group assignment with the attached worksheet. |

Resources Needed
|
1. Enough computers for each student to have a
computer. 2. A copy of the
attached worksheet for each student. 3. Each student will need a writing utensil. |
