This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:
4. Career awareness and employment readiness skills
The student will:
4.8 Demonstrate respect for diversity

General
Approach
Students will be asked to match peers to career interests.  This will be followed by a discussion period in which the students are asked to tell why they believe the career matched the person.  The counselor will point out any instances of stereotyping and relate them to the learning expectations.

Activity Steps
*   Students will be asked to get a piece of scrap paper.
*  They will write one career that interests them and fold up the paper.
*  The counselor will then collect the papers and mix them up.
*  The students will be given a piece of paper.
*  They will be given three minutes to look around the room to try to determine who chose the job on their paper.
*  After the student guesses, the student will tell if the guess is correct.  If not, the correct peer will make him/herself known.
*   The student will be asked to tell why he/she thought the job matched the chosen student.
*  This will lead to a brief discussion on diversity in the workplace.

Time Required
This activity will require roughly thirty to forty-five minutes.

Resources Needed
*  scrap paper
*  pencils
*  a hat to put the papers in (only if desired)

Indicators
After completing the activity, students should be able to discuss diversity while demonstrating an understanding of how stereotypes can limit career decisions.
