Students will break into pairs and interview an employee of the school, (teacher, cafeteria worker, maintenance worker, etc.) who has agreed to participate. The students will then present the interview orally to the class at the next meeting. Students may wish to dress as the employer dresses and may bring items to show that are used in the various occupations. |
· Before the class, ask teachers, secretary's and various other employers of the school if they would be willing to participate in a 10 minute interview conducted by a couple of students. Explain that the interview will be in reference to their specific occupation and the skills and education that got them there. Collect these names. · In class, break the students up into pairs. Either give them the name of a school employee, or have them draw one from a hat. Give the students the list of prepared questions . Explain that before the next meeting the two of them together must interview this employee, using these questions, and any others that they want to ask. Have both students take notes during the interview. Explain that the students must be ready to "present" this occupation from the employee's point of view. The students may dress up or bring items to demonstrate the various occupations. |

This activity will require approximately 15 minutes during the first session to break students into pairs and assign the employee. Also, the activity will need to be explained in full and time should be allowed to answer any questions the students might have. During the second interview, time required may vary on number of paired students, but approximately 5-10 minutes should be allowed per pair. |
