Learning
Expectations

This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:

1. Acquire skills for academic self-confidence, learning and success

The student will:

1.1  Demonstrate academic self-confidence

1.4 Accept responsibility as part of the learning process
1.7 Identify attitudes and behaviors that lead to successful learning

General Approach

The general approach is that students will evaluate how well they organize their study time and learn ways to better organize.

Activity Steps

Start a discussion with the class or group with questions such as:

  • What kind of student are you?
  • Are you happy with your grades?
  • Is homework a problem?

The students will complete the attached worksheet that surveys organizational and study skills.  The students will look at each statement and check the ones that are most like them.  After a few minutes the students will count the number of circles.  The only person that will review the papers will be the student.  This can be used to evaluate strengths and weaknesses.  A discussion could be held on which qualities characterize successful students and what areas of strength each student has.

Time Required

This activity can take from 45 minutes to an hour depending on the length of discussion before the activity and how much discussion goes on during the activity.

Performance
