This activity will help
students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards: Students
will make decisions, set goals and take necessary actions to achieve those
goals. This activity will
help middle school students meet the following learning expectations: 8.1 Modify and apply decision-making and problem solving models for personal use. |

General Approach
|
The general approach is
that the students will be utilizing a web site to explore and learn about the
goal setting and problem solving process. The students will then write down how they can use these
new techniques to solve everyday problems in their lives. |

Activity Steps |
The students will go to the
following website to learn more about setting and achieving goals:
The students will then
answer questions about the decisions they have to make when they set a goal,
what is involved in completing a goal. After the students have
completed this assignment the teacher will select a problem or goal for them
to work on (individually or in groups). Example, “Loose ten pounds, complete
a (five to ten page) term paper, read a one-hundred page book or solve a
problem they might suggest” Students will write down steps
required to solve the problem or complete the goal.
Students will write a paper
or discuss how they can use these goal setting procedures to solve everyday problems
they might have in their lives. |

Performance |
Students should be able to
