This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:

4. Career awareness and employment readiness skills

The student will:

4.2 Locate, evaluate, and utilize skills to interpret career information based on interests.

 


General
Approach

The general approach will be for the students to log onto the listed web site and do a job match based on their likes and dislikes.  They will then fill out a brief worksheet and play two of the activities on the home page. This will be followed by a counselor led discussion.

 


Activity Steps

  • Give each student a worksheet
  • Ask them to log onto the web site

Tell them that they are to click on Job Match and follow the on screen directions as well as filling out the worksheet.

  • Then they are to go back to the home page and complete two of the activities at the bottom of the page choosing from Picture Me, Job Mobile, Tell All and Riddle Me This.
  • Gather the students together for a counselor led discussion.

After the students have completed the worksheet and the activities lead them through a discussion:

  • Start by asking the students what career they are going to report on.
  • What interesting things did you find out about the career you chose?
  • Did the information that to found change our mind about the career or was it what you expected?
  • If you changed your mind about a career, were there other jobs in the cluster that may interest you?

 


Time Required

This activity should take about 30 minutes to complete. Followed by a 15-20 minute discussion. It can be broken into two sessions, first the online activities and the second can be the discussion.

Performance 
Indicators

During the discussion the students will talk about a career they researched.  They will be able to discuss how their interests and abilities fit into the career. The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge about the career they chose and discuss if the career was of interest to them.
