General
Approach

Students will work in pairs , gathering informationabout military career options while interacting with a web site.

Activity Steps

  • Ask students to name all the different ways theyknow of paying for college, technical school or other post-high schoolcareer preparation options. 
  • If no one mentions the military as an option,introduce this idea, stressing that this activity is to provide informationso that the students may add this to their base of post-high school options.
  • Ask students to open the following web address: http://www.myfuture.com
  • Direct students to click on the Military SchoolVideos icon and then choose "Students Talk about the Military".
  • Have them watch the brief video. Discuss whatthe young men and women talked about.
  • Ask students to work with a partner; one personcan navigate the web site and the other person can record answers.
  • Give each pair of students the worksheet "MilitaryCareer Options Scavenger Hunt".
  • Instruct them to explore the web site, findingthe information to complete the worksheet.

Time  Required

This activity will require at least one 50minute class period, and may be extended for a second class period, dependingon interest of students.
