General Approach

The general approach is that children willbe introduced to the concept of different careers in the community. They will access a web site with several activities under people and placesthat positively reinforce correct identification of jobs and places inthe community where different jobs are performed.  Class discussionwill follow to reinforce main ideas presented in the lesson.

Activity Steps

  • The counselor will call the students togetherin a group and introduce the concept of different workers for differentjobs within the community.
  • The counselor will instruct the students to returnto their computer and click on the correct web site.
  • The students will work through a web site wherethey identify different jobs that workers perform and the places wherethose jobs are found in the community.
  • The counselor will call the students togetherin a group to discuss the main concepts presented at the web site concerningrecognition of different work, workers, and the recognition of differentplaces in the community where people perform certain jobs.
  • The students will exhibit acquired competenciesand learning expectations through verbal recognition of occupations presentedon the web site while in class discussion.


Time Requirements

This activity may require 5 - 7 minutes forconcept introduction, 15 minutes to complete the job site on the computer,and 10 minutes for class discussion that follows. 

Resources Needed

The student will perform a career activityon the computer at the above job site.

Performance Indicators
 

During the computer time the student willcorrectly identify the correct occupation that corresponds with the illustrationand identify different places in the community where different jobs arefound.
During the discussion time the student willcorrectly respond to career diversity in the community.
