This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:

The student will:

4.2 identify a variety of career options in the comunity
5.4 recognize that carers require a variety of skills, education and
      interests
 

General Approach

The children will work independently and/or in teams to unscramble a variety of job-related words on a worksheet. This activity will be followed by a counselor-led discussion.

Activity Steps
1. Print a worksheet for each child.
2. Give each student a worksheet.
3. Have each child (independently or in groups) unscramble the words.
4. (optional) Have students color pictures on worksheet.
5. Gather the children together in a circle for discussion.

Discussion:

Lots of people in the community have different jobs. Though these jobs are all different they are all important. Can you tell me about some of the jobs on your paper? Which ones? Does anybody's mom or dad have any of the jobs on the paper? Let's talk about what some of the jobs are and what you know about them.

After the discussion is over, the counselor should ask for any questions that the students may have. 
 


Time Required
This activity may take up to 40 minutes, depending on how long it takes students to unscramble the words.
