Activity Steps

INTRODUCTION - WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?

     If you work an eight hour day from the age of 22 to the age of 67, and never work overtime, you will spend 93.600 hours at your job.  If your job is something that makes you miserable, you are spending a large portion of your life doing something that makes you very unhappy.  It is vital that you choose a career that you will enjoy.  This activity will show you sites on the Internet that will help you make a wise career decision.

STEP 1:
     Look up the web site: http://www.ncsu.edu/careerkey/

     Click on YOU/  Sign in.  Take the Career Key Measure.  Write down the results.

STEP 2:
     Look up the web site: (This site is not working but will be available soon.  Keep checking it to see if it is available.)

     Complete the online Career Questionnaire and submit it onto the computer.
1.  From the top ten ranking careers, choose one career category.  Research the career.  Use the attached worksheet to document your findings.
2.  Under the heading of Training/Advancement, go to the section that shows Related Majors from the College Board Guide to 150 Popular Majors.  Select one topic to research further.  Take notes on the worksheet.

     This activity may best be used as an extra credit activity.  10 points may be awarded for completion of all activities.  6 points may be awarded for 3 steps completed.  4 points for 2 steps completed and 2 points for only 1 step completed.
