1. Counselor will ask students questions such
as: Has anyone ever made you mad? What does it feel like when
you are mad? What does your face look like? What does your
voice sound like? What do you do when you are mad? Is it appropriate
or okay to use that behavior? What would be a better thing to do
when you are mad? How can you use your words appropriately when someone
has made you mad? What will your voice sound like?
2. Have students log on to http://www.cyke.com/station.html . Click on ANGER STOP. Read caption, then place mouse arrow on Monkey King, read and click on PLAY, then click the "NEXT" until done. Next, click on ANGER STOP. Then, click on T-Bone(far left), read, then click START. Read the activity to the students and let them choose behaviors and see how this makes Monkey King feel. Next, click on ANGER STOP, click Dr. Hyde(middle), read, click start, then let students make angry face on Monkey King and make their own angry face. Click ANGER STOP, then Sgt. Steer(far right), read, then click START and allow students to choose appropriate behavior. Ask students how they could use their words appropriately with Sgt. Steer. Log off. Alternatives for younger students: Have children work in small groups at one computer with adult or peer helper OR have the activity projected so that all students can see it OR print off pages from http://www.cyke.com/station.html and let children use crayons to color in good choices and change Monkey King's face. One activity instead of all 3 could be used to shorten the duration. 3. Finish with a counselor led discussion about
activity and using appropriate behaviors. Discuss how Monkey King
felt when he was getting picked on and how he handled things appropriately.
Ask them to give examples of when they handled bad situations appropriately
and used their words appropriately.
