This activity will help students acquire competencies

General Approach |
The general approach will be for students to be at a computer and log on to play a game on line or the counselor can make copies of the page for each student. Then there will be a brief discussion led by the counselor about their experience. |
Activity Steps |
What did you think about the game you just
played? Discuss that the game was a learning experience and learning can
be fun. Tell them that people learn in all different ways and can they
think of how they learn best? By watching others, by listening to directions
or do they like to try it themselves first? Explain that it is important
to develop good study habits now because school is very important.

Time Required |
The game should take no more than 10 minutes, followed by a 15-20 minute discussion. The whole activity no more than 30 minutes total. |

Performance Indicators |
During the discussion the students will be able to identify ways they learn best. They will also be able to discuss what basic skills and attitudes it requires to be a successful student. Also, students will be able to recognize the importance of learning and that it can be fun. |
