Learning Expectations

This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:

4.  Career awareness and employment readiness skills
5.  Career information and career goals

The student will:

4.3  Make decisions, set goals, and develop plans for the future
5.3  Apply technology and other research skills to locate information about job and post-secondary education
5.5  Assess and modify educational plans to support career goals


General Approach

The general approach is to have students explore law schools. More specifically, it is to have them figure out what the best preparation for law school may be, as well as to locate law schools that may interest them both academically and geographically.


Activity Steps

1.  Give each student a law school worksheet
2.  Have students go to the following website to find out what major(s), if any, are required for law school admission:   UTK Law School
3.  Next, if students want to look up a specific law school, have them go to the following searchable list: LSAC
4.  If students prefer to search by geographic region, the following website may be used:   USNEWS
5.  The students may also use this website to see how the law schools they find are ranked:  USNEWS


Time Required

The time required for this activity is between 10 and 15 minutes.

Resources Needed

The necessary resources include computer access and a  law school worksheet


Performance Indicators

Completion of this activity will give students a better understanding of the diversity of choices they have when it comes to a pre-law major, as well as finding some different law schools to further explore.
