This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards:

The student will:

4.3  Make decisions, set goals, and develop plans for the future

6.5  Use technology and other resources for the acquisition of new knowledge and skills


General 

Approach

The general approach is that students will explore the ACT web site and gain understanding of the test and preparation for taking the test.


Activity Steps

 1.  Prior to the activity, check to make sure that the web page is up and running.  Also check to ensure that all computers to be used are working properly.
2.  Print out a copy of the question worksheet for each student.
3.  Have each student open the www address: http://www.act.org/
4.  Have the students click on "students" and then click on "Prepare for the ACT".
5.  Have the students explore this part of the ACT web site while answering questions on the worksheet.  The students may work in pairs if necessary.  Let the students know that if they have any other questions of their own, to write them down and at the end of the computer session, you will try to answer them.


Time Required

This activity will require approximately 20 minutes for the web page search.  Try to have some time at the end to allow for questions.

Resources Needed

1.  Computers with internet access
2.  A copy of the question worksheet for each student
