This activity will help students acquire competencies which relate to the following standards: 

4.   Career Awareness and Employment Readiness Skills
6.   Knowledge and Skills to Achieve Career Goals

The student will:

4.2  access, interpret, and evaluate career information using technology and other resources
4.3  make decisions, set goals, and develop plans for the future
6.5  use technology and other resources for the acquisition of new knowledge and skills


General Approach

The students will explore different community college sites and answer questions on a worksheet pertaining to the college(s) of their choice.  Students will have general questions listed on the worksheet to think about while researching the colleges. 
*Note: All community colleges in this activity are in Tennessee. Other community colleges outside of this area may be used for those students who wish to research them.


Activity Steps

1. Print a worksheet for each student (it would be beneficial if the worksheet could be available on the computer but all www addresses are printed out when that is not available).
2. Give each student a worksheet .
3. Briefly explain the activity to the students.
4. Have the students read the worksheet and start exploring some of the sites while helping them with any technical problems that may arise.
5. Let the students share any information that they found helpful or interesting with the class.
*Note: this activity could also be done at home at the students leisure.


Time Required

This activity may take up to an hour depending on how many schools the students want to research.
