The Sport Management program is committed
to the development of cutting-edge academic undergraduate and Master's
degree programs related to the understanding of management in a sport
related setting. Through these programs, students at The University
of Tennessee are offered the opportunity to develop the skills and
knowledge necessary for a career in Sport Management.
Sport Management is a curricular area that has been a formally
recognized program at The University of Tennessee since 1983. Sport
Management is a field of study and application based upon the integration
of: (a) the special nature of sport and physical activity endeavors,
and (b) management theory and principles applied to sport / physical
activity involvement. Sport Management includes any combination
of skills related to planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating
within the context of an organization or department whose primary
product or service is related to sport and / or physical activity.

The Sport Management program's vision

The goal of Sport Management is to have programs which reflect
a scholarly, morally, and ethically based approach in the world
of sport that is respected at the campus, state, national, and international
communities while emphasizing partnerships among students, faculty,
staff, & alumni as well as within University, state, regional, national,
& international communities. |

The Sport Management undergraduate
student completes 50 hours of general education courses, a 25-hour
minor in business, 55 hours in Sport Management, Sport Studies,
electives, including a 12 credit hour internship at a selected site.

The Masters in Sport Administration
is a 30-33-semester hour course of study. A student may choose to
write a master's thesis(30 hours) or choose the non-thesis option
that involves a scholarly, in-depth project(33 hours). |
