• 2004 Graduate Andrew Pratt was recently named Assistant Head Women's Golf Coach at the University of Tennessee. Read Story HERE

• 2007 Sport Management Graduate Jerod Mayo is in New England proving he was worth the Patriots' first round draft pick and is

Rings • Partners in Sports would like to congratulate UT Sport Management graduates Candace Parker and Tamika Catchings on their recent gold medal performance in women's basketball. Exercise Science graduate Christine Magnussen also earned two silver metals for the 100 meter butterfly and the 4 x 100 medley relay in Beijing.

• Scott Taylor (M.S., 2008) was recently named the Director of Basketball Operations at Tennessee Tech University.

Partners Members Prepare for Trip to Olympics

July 24 2008- Randy Tate and Chanel Lattimer will be traveling to Beijing August 4th to gain valuable sport management experience at the Olympics. The students will be receiving sport management credit while they are in China getting an up-close look at the biggest sporting event in the world. Tate graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in sport management while Lattimer is a graduate student and plans to graduate in December.

Two UT Sport Management Alumni Join UCLA Staff

Butts

May 18, 2008- Two Tennessee Sport Management alumni have joined the staff of UCLA head coach Nikki Caldwell. Tony Perotti (B.S. 1999) and Tasha Butts (B.S. 2004) have joined first year head coach and former Tennessee assistant coach Caldwell in Los Angeles.

Butts, a standout player at the University of Tennessee (2001-04) and then in the WNBA, comes West from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where she served her first year as a full-time assistant this past season. Butts worked primarily with the perimeter players at Duquesne, and her responsibilities included recruiting, opponent scouting, academics, adidas liaison and scheduling.

Perotti

Perotti comes to UCLA from Northern Arizona University, where he spent the last four seasons as an assistant. The past two years, he was the associate head coach. Perotti served primarily as the team's recruiting coordinator, game scouting coordinator and in the development of the perimeter players.

Sport Management Student Receives Top Award
Stone Recognized for Extraordinary Community Service

Zane Stone

April 29, 2008- Sport Management student and Baseball player for UT Zane Stone was given the award for "Extraordinary Community Service" at the University of Tennessee Chancellor's Honor Banquet earlier this month. Stone, a Chattanooga native, was recognized for his many contributions on campus and around the community.

On top of his academic and athletic obligations Stone has helped raise public awareness for breast cancer, Alzheimer’s, leukemia, and a number of cancer centers. He recently mobilized the baseball team to help the Buddy's Race for the Cure raise over $5,000 and has been a valuable role model for Knoxville youth by helping coach and organizing baseball workshops.

Eight Students Receive Scholarships

2008 Scholarship Winners

April 16, 2008- Partners in Sports held their 10th annual scholarship reception on Tuesday, April 15th at the East Club in Neyland Stadium. Eight of Partners' most outstanding members were honored with scholarships. Steve Early, UT Sport Management graduate and General Manager of the Vol Network, was the guest speaker at the reception.

The Partners in Sports Scholarships were awarded to Jackie Wise, Katie Rahme, Chanel Lattimer, Ben DeHaan, and James Stokes for their professional potential and support of Partner in Sports. Regina Johnson was awarded the inaugural Aisha Washington Scholarship. Zach Franz and Ed Stinson received the Buck Jones Award named after the founder and former director of Partners in Sports.

Partners would like to thank The University of Tennessee men's and women's athletic departments, and Q'Doba. We would also like to thank all Partners in Sports members, guests, and supporters that attended the reception.

This year's Scholarship Reception will be held Tuesday, April 15th in the East Club at Neyland Staium. All Partners members are invited and are expected to join us for food provided by QDoba and refreshments as we honor the University of Tennessee's most outstanding Sport Management students. This year's guest speaker will be Steve Early, UT Sport Management class of '87 and is currently the General Manager of the Vol Network.

Partners in Sports Hosts Fourth Annual Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition

Feb. 18, 2008 -- Partners in Sports and the University of Tennessee football team and hosted the 4th annual Punt Pass and Kick Competition for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley on Monday. The event was once again held in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex. Over 100 boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 12 competed in the event.

University of Phoenix Stadium

February 12, 2008- Doctor Fritz Polite led a group of 12 University of Tennessee students to Arizona for a once in a lifetime experience. "Team UT" worked as volunteers at different events in Arizona for six days leading up to the Giant's upset of the New England Patriots. The team worked with the NFL Experience, an interactive fan experience located right beside the stadium. The NFL Experience has interactive football games for fans, NFL players, and lots of activities for fans the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

Spring Semester Activities

January 23, 2008 - Partners in Sports is giving UT Sport Management students opportunities to get involved this semester in a number of ways. Partners members will have opportunities to gain valuable sport management experience in a number of different events this spring including attending Knoxville Ice Bear and Memphis Grizzlies games, and also helping put on a Punt Pass and Kick Competition and the Partners in Sports Annual golf Tournament. Sponsorships 101

Jan. 17, 2008 - Tim Lynde, a graduate from UT’s Sport Management masters program, has written a very useful book for future sport managers. The book titled Sponsorships 101 is filled with 11 very important lessons to allow future sport managers to gain valuable information and experience working with sports marketing and sponsorships. The 11 chapters include lessons on why sponsorship is important, how to analyze current sponsorships, and how to choose, negotiate, and evaluate sponsorships.

Dr. Polite Leads TEAM UT to Arizona

UT Students last Super Bowl XLI in Miami

January 9 2008 - Dr. Fritz Polite will lead a group of University of Tennessee Sport Management students into Arizona for an opportunity to gain experience at this year's Super Bowl. Five UT Sport Management graduate students, a Sport Management undergraduate student, and two dual MS/MBA students will spend nearly a week in Pheonix. The opportunity will give the students unique experience working with mega-event operations. The 12 member TEAM UT roster is rounded out with one MBA student and three ungergraduates from the UT commications program. The students traveling to Arizona were chosen through an extensive application and interview process.

UT Sport Management Students Traveling
to China for 2008 Olympics

- Two Tennessee Sport Management students have been chosen to travel to China for the 2008 Olympics. Chanel Lattimer and Randy Tate will be two of 17 students from 10 universities going to Beijing. In Bejing Chanel and Randy were selected from to go on the 12-day study of the organization, supervision, and management of international sport venues and elite competition.
