2010 SUMMER SPORT AND EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDY TOUR: This is to announce George Mason University's Academy of International Sport 2010 Summer Sport and Event Management study tour to South Africa during the FIFA World Cup. We have several places left for students who want to participate.
I have spent many years researching in South Africa and will be leading the tour. We have many top academic and industry people from South Africa involved as well. We will be staying at the world famous Jeffrey's Bay Beach near Port Elizabeth, in Cape Town, and finish up with a visit to Victoria Falls, the world's biggest waterfall. Students will be able to be involved in a research project linked to the World Cup, work with youth soccer teams, and other activities that will enhance their resumes. In addition we have many exciting sport and tourist venues we will visit including the new stadiums in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, the site of the world surfing event in J-Bay, Newlands rugby stadium, and more. We will visit two wild game parks, visit a penguin colony, go to the two highest bungee jump sites in the world, experience the world's biggest waterfall, Robben Island and Cape Point World Heritage sites, and ride to the top of Table Mountain. We will also share in Africa n cultural experiences as well as meet people from all over the world -- oh, and there is this little thing called the FIFA World Cup going on too, the first time it has ever been held in Africa, and an event that only comes around once every four years. Please let your students know of this great opportunity.

WINGATE UNIVERSITY SUMMER PROGRAM TO AUSTRALIA: This is just a short note to invite your students to participate in our Wingate University Summer Program to Australia being conducted July 7 - 27, 2010. This 3-credit hour summer program caters to both graduate & undergraduate students. Credit can easily be transferred from Wingate back to your institution with appropriate approval.
As you are no doubt aware, there are plenty of generic summer study abroad opportunities out there, but this class specifically caters to students interested in Sport Management. This experience would be a wonderful academic & cultural opportunity as well as a legitimate resume builder for those in a position to attend. Australia has a wonderful model of sport worthy of studying and the country itself is a fantastic destination from a tourism perspective. We will be visiting with 3-4 Aussie universities, several professional sporting organizations & venues, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), attending professional games and more.
I am the Academic leader for this class, so for questions specifically relating to the academic content please contact me at cdewaele@wingate.edu or at (704) 233-8177.
