Operation Rx nabs 92 on drug charges

Clinton, Anderson County (WVLT) - Monday could be the biggest day for arrests in Anderson County history. It's all part of an ongoing investigation the sheriff's department calls Operation Rx.

So far more than forty people have been arrested primarily on various felony drug charges.

Volunteer TV's Anderson County Bureau Chief Eric Waddell has the story.

"When we are finished there should be a total of 92 people that will be charged," says Anderson County Sheriff Bill White.

Since early Monday morning Anderson County Sheriff's Deputies have been busy, rounding up alleged drug dealers. Courthouse observers have told us they have never seen a single legal sweep like this one before.

"We get a few drug charges, here every once in a while," says David Brown, from All-American Bail Bonds. "But this is a major one."

Perhaps the biggest arrest on the day is Betty Sue Lindsay. She is facing 11 felony drug charges and has a $490,000 bond. She faces two charges for violations of the "drug free school zone." For selling drugs near Anderson County High School.

"We don't need that type of activity going on there," says Sheriff White.

Also arrested for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school, George "JR" Moles. The stepson of former Sheriff Scott Manning is also charged with four other felony drug charges.

"He was selling drugs on a regular basis, he also was one of the ones in the 'drug free school zone.' We bought from him various times during this investigation," says Sheriff White.

His bond is $275,000. 23 of the people arrested have bonds of over $100,000. Authorities hope that will keep the worst offenders behind bars.

Along with the 92 people charged in today's roundup, warrants have been issued for 67 other people for selling drugs.

Deputies are in the process of confiscating 36 vehicles believed to be used in the sale or transportation of narcotics.

Also nearly $21,000 in drug money has been collected.

Today's action is part of an operation that started in May of 2005.
