Job Openings
Postdoctoral Research Associates:
It is possible to apply for various externally sponsored fellowship programs, and I am happy to work with any applicant interested in doing so. In the past, we have had success with the NATO/NSF and DFG Postdoctoral Fellowship Programs. Applicants must be interested in pursuing projects on the spectroscopy of novel electronic and magnetic materials. Please contact Prof. Musfeldt to discuss opportunities.
Graduate Research Assistants:
Work in the Musfeldt Group is directed at understanding the spectroscopic response of complex magnetic and electronic solids. Research programs have been initiated in the areas of spin-Peierls and other interrupted linear chain systems, low-dimensional magnetic oxides and bronzes, molecule-based magnets, inorganic nanotubes, fullerene polymers, organic ladder compounds, and superconducting organic molecular solids. Mesoscopic and nanoscopic analogs of these novel materials are also of current interest. Our goal is to use our understanding of the electrodynamics to both test current theoretical work as well as to design new materials and devices with novel properties.
We have active and strong research collaborations at several national labs including Argonne, Brookhaven, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Lab. We also have a number of on-going international collaborations. Both opportunities provide graduate students with important educational opportunities.
Application materials for the University of Tennessee's graduate program in Chemistry can be found on the Departmental Web Site. We also accept students from the Physics and Materials Departments. Interested students are urged to apply to the appropriate Department.
Current UT graduate students interested in our Group should make an appointment to discuss research opportunities with Prof. Musfeldt.
Undergraduate Research Assistants:
From time to time, we select a small number of undergraduates to participate in on-going research projects. Please contact Prof. Musfeldt for an interview if you are interested in this opportunity.
