Graduate Teaching Assistantships
The Music Theory area of the University of Tennessee School of Music offers three graduate assistantships.
Duties: First year music theory GTAs assist in the teaching of ear training courses and monitor the computer lab. Second year GTAs may also teach Music Theory 100: Fundamentals of Music.
TO APPLY FOR A SCHOOL OF MUSIC THEORY GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP:

Submit your application to the Graduate school along with your application fee and your transcript. (See Graduate and International Admissions) Application deadline: February 1.

Submit your application to the School of Music Graduate Studies office along with at least 3 letters of reference and samples of your writing/composition. (See How to Apply: Graduate) Application deadline: February 1.

Submit an Application for Graduate Assistantships in Music. Application deadline: February 1.
Once the theory area has reviewed your application, you will be asked to come to UT to:

Interview with the theory faculty.

Teach an ear training class (10-minutes; topic will be provided).

Take the Ear Training Diagnostic Exam. You must pass this test before you will be accepted as a GTA.
These visits will be scheduled from Feb 15-March 1.
Decisions will be made and offers will be sent by March 15.
Tutoring Positions
Starting Fall 2008, several students will be hired as tutors for the theory area. See Job Announcements for further information.
