Chip Quality Workshop Well Attended
A Workshop on Wood Chip Quality was held at the Forest Products Center in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 20th. Attendees came from Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina and included representatives from sawmills, chip mills, pulp mills, chipper manufacturers and an industry association.
The Workshop was aimed at providing fundamental information on the properties of a high-quality wood chip quality, why it is important to the pulping process, and what can be done to ensure consistent production of quality chips.
The Workshop was organized by the Forest Products Center and was supported by Weyerhauser, Bowater, International Paper, Precision Husky and the Forest Resources Association. Special thanks are due to Oak Ridge Hardwoods, who provided a sawmill tour and an on-site inspection of a chipper.
