Álvaro A. Ayo
ÁLVARO A. AYO is an Assistant Professor of Spanish Peninsular Literature. His area of specialization is 18th and 19th century literature. Recently he has focused his research efforts on the years between the Spanish First and Second Republics (1870s-1930s). Humor, autobiography, modernity, and nationalism in prose and poetry are some of his main areas of research interest. He has published several articles dealing with these topics as seen in the works of Pérez de Ayala, Galdós, Unamuno, and Maragall. He has also published a book about humor titled La tragicomedia de la certidumbre perdida: Ramón Pérez de Ayala y su narrativa (Juan de la Cuesta, 2006). Currently he is working on a book that deals with modernity and the representation of the nation in the works of leading authors in turn-of-the- century Spain.
