NEWS FROM THE LRC

The LRC invites you to a workshop in the Presentation Technology Series :

  1. Powerpoint Basics (1 to 1.5 hours) Tuesday, October 24, 10 AM, HSS 205
Goals: PowerPoint is a high-powered software tool used for presenting information in a dynamic slide show format. Text, charts, graphs, sound effects and video are just some of the elements PowerPoint can incorporate into your presentations with ease. Whether it's a classroom lesson, a conference paper or a semester project - PowerPoint shows you how to make a powerful impression on your audience. You'll learn the basics on using PowerPoint's toolbars, laying out your information, saving, moving your information to the place you'll be presenting it - and much more. Registration is required as space is limited. Please register by emailing dcanfie1@utk.edu, dialing 974-6494 or visiting the Language Resource Center.

  2. Web Development Series: Advanced HTML (1 to 1.5 hours) Thursday, October 26 @ 11am, HSS 206
Goals: This session is intended for instructors who would like to learn advanced HTML to use in websites for educational purposes. For more information or to register, please e-mail m3n1k@utk.edu.

  3. Audio/Video Series: Introduction to iMovie (1 to 1.5 hours) Tuesday, October 31, 10 AM, HSS 206
Goals: This workshop covers the basics of importing video, editing your clips, importing music, and producing a final product that you can deploy online or on DVD.

Registration is required as space is limited. Please register by emailing dcanfie1@utk.edu, dialing 974-6494 or visiting the Language Resource Center.

  4. YouTube for Instructional Purposes (1 to 1.5 hours) Thursday, November 2, 11 AM, HSS 205
Goals: The number of video-sharing sites is growing, and the hugely popular YouTube has by far most videos. One can find music videos, vintage foreign footage, and a smorgasbord of the odd and unpredictable. According to YouTube, each day, more than 70 million videos are viewed on the site. So, what does this mean for modern foreign languages and literatures faculty? What might it offer classrooms? Come find out what is available and how easy it is to share what you find directly in Blackboard.

Registration is required as space is limited. Please register by emailing dcanfie1@utk.edu, dialing 974-6494 or visiting the Language Resource Center.

  5. In addition to the scheduled training Workshops currently offered, the Language Resource Center now provides faculty members with Drop-In Training. Need in-depth assistance? Have a specific question or project you’re working on? Unable to attend one of our scheduled workshops? Call X4-6494 and set up an appointment for a one-on-one tutorial, or just stop by the LRC from 8-9 AM or 3-4 PM, Monday through Friday.
