GOOD NEWS!
- Edmund Campion (French) will read a paper on Senghor's "Elegie pour
Georges Pompidou" at the international Senghor Colloquium to be held later this month at the University
of the West Indies in Barbados to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Senghor's birth.
- PhD in Spanish candidate Cristina Campos Fuentes had her article "En
el país de la parodia: el criollismo en Adán Buenosayres, de Marechal", accepted for publication in Chasqui
(edited by David Foster, State University of Arizona). Her work will appear in one of the 2007 issues.
- Welcome to Professor Greg Kaplan's (Spanish), article, “Teaching to the Masses:
The Design and Implementation of a Large Lecture Hispanic Culture Course," has been published in the most recent
issue of Foreign Language Annals, the journal of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages
(ACTFL).
- John Romeiser (French) gave a talk, "The Making of a Combat
Reporter: Don Whitehead's World War II," to the Knoxville Writers' Group, September 27.

The Spanish 211 film series is presenting the Spanish movie "El Bola" at 4:00 in the Hodges Library
Lindsay Young Auditorium. Please note that the Tuesday showing has been canceled. Everybody is welcome.
- The next meeting of the Lecturers' Association will take place at Susan Edmundson's house at 5:00 P.M.
on Sunday, November 5. Please bring a dish to share. The official meeting will begin at 5:30 P.M..

IN MEMORIAM
Patrick S. Brady, holder of the Shumway Chair of Excellence in Romance Languages
and Professor of French, died September 30. A Memorial service and Mass will take place Tuesday, October 10, at 4:00,
at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 414 W. Vine Avenue, with the Fr. Joseph Ciccone, CSP officiating.
