FROM THE LANGUAGE RESOURCE CENTER (LRC)

Here are the LRC workshops taking place in the next two weeks. Registration is required as space is limited. Please register by emailing dcanfie1@utk.edu, dialing 974-6494 or visiting the Language Resource Center.

  1. The LRC invites you to a workshop in the CMC Series: Skype and Gizmo for Instructional Purposes (1 to 1.5 hours)
    Tuesday, September 26, 10 AM, HSS 205 (PC users)
    Thursday, September 28, 11 AM, HSS 206 (Macintosh users)

    Goals:
    This session is a resource for instructors who would like to provide students with meaningful, authentic materials and communication in the target language on a sustained basis. A general introduction to VoIP and the leading software will be followed by a walk-through of the initial setup for Skype and Gizmo, and how to get started calling other Skype/Gizmo users for free. Then, we'll explain the paid features you can use with both, and explore pedagogical applications and deployment strategies.


  2. The LRC invites you to a workshop in the Web Development Series: Introduction to Basic HTML (1 to 1.5 hours) Tuesday, October 3 @ 2pm, HSS 205 (PC Lab)

    Goals:
    This session is intended for instructors who would like to learn how to create websites for educational purposes. This Basic HTML session will include 5 lessons and a hands-on practice lesson.
    • Lesson 1: Introduction to HTML
    • Lesson 2: Getting Started With HTML – Create Title and Body Text Formatting (Bold, Italic, Underline)
    • Lesson 3: Headings, Line Breaks, Comments, Horizontal Line
    • Lesson 4: Create Hyperlinks and Insert Images
    • Lesson 5: Create Ordered and Unordered Lists
    • Practice Lesson

    Requirement:   UNIX (Web Space) Account

  3. The LRC invites you to a workshop in the Web Development Series: Blackboard Content Modules and Gradebook (1 to 1.5 hours)
    Thursday, October 5 @ 2pm, HSS 205 (PC Lab)
  4. Goals:
    This session is for instructors who would like to provide students with around-the-clock access to the most current grade information for their course, AND/OR for those who have Web pages that they would like to easily deploy as-is in their Blackboard courses. First, we will discuss how to upload previously-created Web pages into blackboard and set them up to monitor use by your students. This workshop will end with a demonstration on building a Gradebook, managing items and grades, setting up weighting, and other options offered in the Blackboard Gradebook.
