Kodjo Adabra (French) abstract submitted earlier this month to present at the French Studies Graduate Conference at Louisiana State University has been accepted. The title for this year's conference is: "Literature, Language, and Theory: Challenges to Authority." The conference will be held March 7-8, 2008.
Greg Kaplan (Spanish) will give a presentation sponsored by Humanities Initiative Committee titled "Poking Fun at a Jewish Past: The Psychology of 'Converso' Humor." The presentation will take place on Wednesday, February 6, at 12:30pm in the Tyson Alumni Center.Prior to the talk, coffee and refreshments will be served.
Dan Magilow (German) recently gave a talk in Miami, Florida, co-sponsored by Florida International University and The Holocaust Memorial, Miami Beach. The presentation, connected to his forthcoming book from Rutgers UP, was titled "Anne Frank and Kitty Weichherz: Two Girls, Two Diaries."
In connection with his German 350/Judaic Studies 350 course "The Afterlife of the Holocaust", Magilow has set up a film series called "Key Moments in Holocaust Memory." It consists of three films (one in two parts). All are in English or with English subtitles and all are free and open to the public:

Immediately following this gathering, and in the same city, they will hold the 3rd annual poetry conference (III Jornadas Internacionales de Poesia Latinoamericana), July 14-17, in honor of poet Dolores Castro Varela. Both distinguished Mexican writers will attend the conferences.
